Reclaimed Materials
Myco-Elemental takes these reclaimed materials and works them to an artistic state of finish and deliver to the local region. Through a regenerative process of revitalizing the elements, our intention is to reclaim these trees and offer the highest yield possible of these distinctively aged materials. We work to preserve their life into an heirloom work of art. These locally harvested redwood tables represent our deep devotion to reform our connection to the elements.
Handcrafted: The restoration process begins by carefully cleaning each piece to highlight it’s unique features. Splintered pieces are carefully examined and removed on both sides of the slab. Natural cracks and curves give each table their unique signature design. We honor these distinct features by fabricating custom redwood bowties which showcase and secure the cracks left behind.
Forest Crafted Edges are preserved, exhibiting a lifespan in a lively forest. These unique curved edges are rare to find as the feature originates with trees that flourished in an old growth forest. These characteristics occur throughout a growth period where older redwoods impact upon the young growing trees when they drop their large branches. On impact the young tree’s formation change and adapt to survive. With so few of our elder redwood trees around, this unique curvaceous feature is rare to find.
The Artisan Touch The natural conditioning of the wood creates crevices which allows for an additional artistic expression, such as a rock and crystal river on slivers. The rich red hues and figuring pattern on the wood are respected by only sanding and finishing with a natural oil. The oils protect this piece of art for longevity beyond our lifetime.
